Serious Stucco

Part 4, and bringing us up to date:

Our two offspring worked together all weekend last week, to completely ring the building with a 4’-wide band of stucco.

Took them 2 days, and the put on 14 80-pound bags.  We had no power tools for them, so they mixed each bag in a wheelbarrow by hand, using hoe and shovel, and they applied the stucco by hand while wearing heavy rubber gloves.  They had a grooved trowel for the final scratching, and it was very hot, which slowed us all down.  But their progress was steady, and Dave lifted 1,120 pounds of stucco from the ground to the wheelbarrow, and between them they lifted 1,120 pounds of stucco plus even more water weight from the wheelbarrow onto the wall.  They were kicked.

To ring the building, it took 15 bags of stucco, and actually they were short 1 bag, so we now know that one ring around the building is about 16 bags of stucco.  To reach the top of the building, we need to make 2 more rings around the building.

Then we’ll have a party, right?  NO!!!!  Because the exterior requires not one, but THREE coats of stucco.

I am hopeful that getting one complete coat will protect against early fall rains, but I really have no reason to believe that.  Drew, is it true?
