Working Hard, Huffing PVC Glue

Our marathon PVC gluing session is almost over.  Too bad because smelling that PVC glue sure is a lot of fun.  I think it’s bad for your brain, but I’m not sure.  I think it’s bad for your brain, but I’m not sure.

We were drilling in a cover crop of Vetch and Rye today.  We used about 1000 lbs for the 10 acres. The fertility that winter cover crops create more than pays for itself.  A winter without a legume/grass cover crop is a tragedy; it is like christmas without presents…no, even worse.  Like salsa without cilantro.  Yeah, that bad.

Anyway, now that my season is over in terms of selling to people, I’m really getting a chance to evaluate the many faces of farming.   Did you know that farming can be emotionally draining?  I’ve developed some thicker skin this year.  That’s because you can’t please everyone.  Sometimes you can’t please anyone, least of all yourself.  In fact farmers are their own worst critics.  Friends shouldn’t let farmers be bumers (to anyone).  So, when everyone is criticizing you, just know, you’re not alone.  And, almost miraculously, the praise for farmers far outweighs the rest.
