The True Romance Of Farming

Today was just one of those days where I looked at the field and all of the transplants that are strong and healthy, and I thought: “Man, this is awesome.”  Today was the romance version of farming.

And how could it not be romantic when you’re doing exactly what you love?  It doesn’t matter that my wage per hour would probably qualify me for a host of government programs (alas, no subsidies for the vegetables I grow - does that make any sense!).  This is the only job I’ve ever enjoyed.  Period.  And it’s not just simple enjoyment.  I love it.  I look forward to it.  Today, this is the romance blog about
farming.

I was on a roll today - with transplanting.  At some jobs, it’s about how fast you can type (words per minute, if you will).  For me, it’s about transplants per minute.  I don’t actually know what my rate is, but  it’s getting better.  Overall I put out about 400 today.  Not bad.  Not a ton, but it’s been like that every day for a couple of
weeks and it adds up, in addition to the direct seeding that I’m doing.

The rain held off until I went home.  The second round of peppers was germinating in the greenhouse, and we’re gonna till the fields tomorrow.  If that isn’t romance, tell me what is.
