Opportunity of the Commons

We have a great opportunity now to protect and restore our waterways - rivers, creeks, streams, lakes and irrigation ways - to pristine, crystaline form.

For many years now our society has encouraged building, development, and industry on our waterways.  Now, the time is changing.

I have had water issues at the farm this year.  We are irrigating from a well that has reduced its output, and the consequences of not having enough water are real and devastating.  From 1 acre of production, I am now balancing 1/2 acre.  It is all about water.  If I could have one nutrient for my plants, it would be water - then sun, then calcium.

Lets encourage all of our friends and neighbors to keep foremost clean water in our consciousness.  We all want it.  There is no partisan agenda here.  Let’s reduce our residential use and keep all toxins and chemicals from going into our water sources.  That means no chemicals down the drain - instead of flushing that nail polish down the toilet, store it for future use (or, more outlandishly, skip the nail polish).  Instead of drain-o, lets use a tool to clean the drain.

I want to give my kids a planet with beautiful, clean water.  I want them to enjoy the experience of swimming in a clean river, instead of worrying about the toxins that may be floating in it.  This is a great opportunity for us.
