Getting Started - Part 1

Four Frog Farm | Blog

In mid-February I went to Andrew Meyers’ farm in rural Nevada County.  We talked about the Freshman Farmer project and how it was going to work. We also talked a lot about his plans, the crops he would raise, and his hopes for his CSA.

Please watch the video to see what this program will be all about!

Andrew,

You are a great inspiration.  I live in Las Vegas, NV… I sell ice-machines for a living… am 42 years old, married, no kids.  Two years ago, my wife and I bought 25 acres in Green River, UT and we dream of our farm-to-be.

I have just purchased, my first (experimental) cover-crop seeds from Peaceful Valley.  We are going to start some trials over Memorial Day Weekend.

Enjoy yourself ... and best of luck!

This message is for Eric & Vicki Ray.  I also reside (and garden) in Las Vegas, and would like to encourage you to get in touch with UNR Cooperative Extension.  They offer some resources that might help you:  the Master Gardener Program, which includes an orchard and garden, is a great resource.  Good luck with the farm in Green River.  It’s beautiful up there.
Ana

Three farms are starting from scratch.

They are turning the dirt and hoping to be successful enough to turn a profit, and to become a valuable part of their communities as suppliers of organically grown food.

Peaceful Valley is giving them a head start by offering them special pricing as part of this Freshman Farmer program.
